About Our Organization

Story About Us
Where it all began

Who are We?

We are a non-governmental organisation that was established on May 15, 2009. Concerned with the accuracy and currency of nutrition information that reaches the public and especially that which impact the nutrition of our students, athletes and youth both inside and outside the classroom.

Our main focus entails the development and implementation of school nutrition programmes and school feeding programmes across the island.

Mounting

Mounting training and education programmes leading to certification and credentialing.

Providing

Providing guidance on standards, monitoring and evaluation through sustainable policies, structures and systems for institutions, notably, schools.

Producing

Producing and distributing resource materials for use with nutrition programmes.

Collaborating

Collaborating with relevant agencies to accurately inform on the nutritional value of locally produced food and to mobilize accessibility to appropriate diets through the schools.

Offering

Offering nutrition screening, counselling and wellness promotion activities among students, teachers and school community through an extensive network of trained practitioners

Our Services

Community Capacity Building

Empowering parents and community advocates in nutrition education to integrate nutrition principles and standards into school, work and home feeding.

Infrastructural Systems

Promote meal standards for age and sex appropriate eating, kitchen hygiene, and health promotion messages and legislation for schools.

Education and Training

Upgrading educational performance, reducing violent behaviours through school feeding and use of Caribbean and culture-sensitive resources.

Linking Nutrition with Agriculture

Promote the use of locally produced foods for food and nutrition sustainability related to food security and the environment.

Our Partners

Governance

  • JINN is a registered charity with the Department of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies and is governed by and subject to the provisions of the Charities Act 2013.
  • The Authority is the Department of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies and the Registrar is the Companies Office of Jamaica.
  • Board of Directors provides strategic direction and leadership to ensure the Vision, Mission and objectives of JINN.
  • The Board, consisting of 7 members, acts in an advisory capacity, bringing consultative expertise to the Executive Director, thereby increasing the odds of success and credibility with potential donors.
  • The Executive Director provides operational direction to JINN.
